CD Review & Giveaway of Kidz Bop 16 and Kidz Bop Christmas
November 24, 2009
Kidz Bop 16 features some of the most recent tracks to fill our Top 40 airwaves, done up and radio edit-ized Kidz Bop style (aka kid friendly with no F***s A**s or B****s about it). It’s sixteen tracks of pop music your kids, from tots to pre-tWeens, can listen to without you having to worry about questionable language or lyrics. No doubt you’re familiar with the Kidz Bop CD from all their commercials on TV, with all the bouncy children rocking it out in all their pop-star-to-be glory, cranking out covers of the latest hits from artists like Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Sean Kingston and more.
**Giveaway information is located at the bottom of this review**
littleQ’s face lit up in a big cheesy smile as soon as the Kidz Bop version of Boom Boom Pow came on. I know, it’s a pretty funny for that to be a 3 year old’s favorite song, but he loves it, and of course the Kidz Bop version is clean and both innuendo and foul language free.
Going through the songs, it sounds to me that the original instrumental tracks are always used, which is great because the songs don’t sound fake, they just sound like kiddie friendly remixes. I’m not a big fan of the high pitched group choruses in the slower songs because it just doesn’t go, like in the rendition of Beyonce’s If I Were a Boy. It sounded okay to me until you hit the chorus. Well, littleQ loved almost all the songs (he recognized them from the radio of course), and as far as awesomeness-of-song quality, it’s his opinion that matters.
littleQ’s favorite track is Boom Boom Pow (of course!), and mine has to be Sinai Rose’s LOL. Her voice is that of a total R&B Hip Hop n’ Pop princess: bubbly yet smooth and strong. To me, LOL doesn’t sound like the “kiddie” version of anything! It’s a fun, funky song that I really wouldn’t mind blasting in the car. If you buy the CD, it also comes with a free bonus download of Sinai’s Being Myself on the Kidz Bop website.
You can also buy the individual songs or the entire album on iTunes. ![]()
Kidz Bop Christmas is a great way to introduce kiddos to Christmas songs they can sing along to. It’s good to have playing in the background for holiday get-togethers where there will be a lot of children present, or as the kid’s background music if they’re relegated to carry on their monkey business another room. I enjoyed the Kidz Bop version of Santa Claus is coming to Town, which again is performed by Sinai Rose. I wish the performances all had that extra splash of energy and panache that is present in Sinai’s songs.
Bottom line: The Kidz Bop cd’s are meant for children, and I suggest them as stocking stuffers and gifts for children ages 7 and under. You might get away with getting this for a slightly older child, but it would definitely depend on the kid’s maturity level. In my opinion it’s way too cutesy for children any older than 6 or 7 years old.
Do you want to win copies of both Kidz Bop 16 and Kidz Bop Christmas? This prize has a total ARV of $30.
Eligibility: 18 years of age or older, void where prohibited, US & Canada residents only. A valid email address is required for entry for winner notification. The entry period for this giveaway will run from November 24, 2009 to 11:59pm EST on December 4, 2009.

Anybody Invent a never-sick-never-ever Mommy Vaccine yet?
November 23, 2009
So I have bronchitis. Acute bronchitis to be exact. As such, I am cringing at the absolute pain that is enveloping the back of my throat and climbing up to my ears all while I fight back a fit of coughs that is surely to erupt in my chest if I give in to that niggling tickle.
But I’m Mom… and I’m not supposed to get sick, I can’t!
It all began over a week ago, when mrQ began to cough. It grew from a simple clearing of the mucous every once in a while to a loud and painful sounding bark, which later evolved to include a fever and a runny nose. Feverish and lethargic, he sent me a plea via text to come home from work to watch the kids. I rushed home, but not before having to let the front desk folks at my job know, and you could just see the lady was silently clicking her tongue when she pursed her lips as she took down the details of my impromptu schedule change.
Fast forward five days later, and now I’m the one with the on and off fevers, which is not surprising considering I seem to get sick if an unwell anybody even breathes in my direction, no matter how many times I wash my hands and slather Purell on my hands. And so I had to call out of work sick. I work on the phones for Pete’s sake! I’m pretty sure the customers would hang up on me for fear of being infected via phone line. Again, I got a snippy ‘tude from the front desk people when I called in. Whatever. I wonder if they’d enjoy being treated that way if they had the flu or the shingles or something.
Well, what are you gonna do? When anyone in the house is sick, who has their life placed on hold? Mommy, that’s who! When there’s nobody to watch the kids and both Mommy and Daddy have to go to work, who has to use a personal day? Still Mommy. At least that’s the way the division of labor is distributed in our house. Because this isn’t the first time this year that family related circumstances or (obviously) unplanned sicknesses have conflicted with my work related responsibilities, let’s all hope I don’t get fired while still recovering from this nasty bronchial infection!
Ay, I need more sick days.

Consumer Reports Best Baby Products Book Giveaway and Baby Formula Coupons
November 15, 2009
***This giveaway is now over. Congrats to the randomly chosen winner, Laureen, aka MamandeEDS on Twitter! Laureen, please check your email for the winner notification I sent you.***
I’m sure you’re familiar with Consumer Reports, the organization that blows the lids off all the BS and brings consumers the information they need about the validity of claims made by manufacturers as well as the usability, safety and efficacy of products.
Today I want to let you know, my dear readers, that MamaDivas.com is giving away a copy of the 368-page baby product guide Consumer Reports Best Baby Products, 10th Edition ($16.95 value) (giveaway information is at the end of this post)
Of course we all know that "breast is best", but when breastfeeding is not feasible or possible, moms turn to baby formula, which is one of the costliest expenses of parenting. According to the Consumer Reports Best Baby Products guide, store brand formula is just as nutritious for babies as nationally advertised, brand-name baby formula is. If you’ve ever stopped to compare the prices of baby formula, you know that many times the difference between store brand vs. brand names like Similac or Enfamil is quite substantial, up to 50% depending on the establishment.

Tips for a Pain-Free Family Photo with Toddlers & Preschoolers
November 14, 2009
As the holiday season approaches, families are whipping out their cameras with high hopes of capturing that perfect family photo that’ll be cherished on your photo cards and mantels for years to come.
But… if your kids are anything like my littleQ, the perfect photo opp isn’t always in the cards (no pun intended!). littleQ actually does love the camera, just not always when I need him to. Last year I posted about our unsuccessful attempt to have a family portrait taken, and because of that experience, I’m going to be doing things a little differently this year.
We’re going to head to one of the many woodsy-like walking trails here on Long Island and take our own family photo. (Ugh, which we better do soon, because it is already mid-November.) I definitely don’t want to have to deal with another pint-sized meltdown, so I will be very, very prepared!
If you’ve got kids under the age of 5 and need to get this year’s perfect family photo, these tips apply whether you are going to be using the auto-timer on your camera or are having professional photos taken.

Spreadshirt – This Christmas Give Family and Friends T-shirts with Your Custom Designs
November 13, 2009
Nothing says “I love you” during the holidays like a personalized t-shirt does! There are a few print on demand companies out there that offer customized tees, such as Zazzle, Cafepress and Spreadshirt,
but today I’m only going to focus on Spreadshirt.
Spreadshirt offers plot printing with Flex and Flock as well as direct to garment printing, all three of which are top quality and are great choices for printing tees, just depending on the feeling you’re going for as well as the design. If I had to choose though, I would have to say my favorite is Flock printing, just for the texture! It’s fuzzy like felt, but won’t pill or peel off. Rest assured, their flex and flock printing (which is basically vinyl heat pressed to the fabric at incredibly high heat with an enormous amount of pressure) is very,
very durable and will stand up to many washes to come.
I myself actually have a Spreadshirt shop and have of course ordered shirts as samples, and the flex and flock are great! I feel that Flex and Flock designs create a much more finished, professional look for your t-shirts.
As far as designs go, you can either choose from Spreadshirt’s extensive library of t-shirt art, which is comprised of thousands of member-submitted designs and even includes Rhinestone appliques (unfortunately members are unable to create their own Rhinestones designs). Don’t worry! The designs are broken down by category (phew!) and you can search through them to find ones that are tagged under the keywords you’re looking for.
They have a great selection of fonts you can enlarge, rotate and colorize to your heart’s desire. Also, with Spreadshirt, the printable area of the shirt is considerably larger than with other consumer print on demand sites, so you have more room to customize, more room for creativity.
