Need a Green Guide? Pick up Ecoholic by Adria Vasil
November 12, 2009
For the past two years, the media, technology, the blogosphere, it’s all been about going green, being green, living green, and of course, raising green minded kids. And no, you’re no longer likened to a hippie for making eco-friendly choices, because green is totally mainstream! There’s so much information to sift through through, so many eco-friendly products and ideas to try out… what’s a green mama wannabe to do?
One book that should be on your reading list if you’re new to the green movement or are just thirsty for more information is Ecoholic: When You’re Addicted to the Planet by Adria Vasil.
There’s so much information in this book that I can’t even begin to touch upon all the different topics covered, but to give you an idea of just how in depth and informative it is, here’s a short list of a few things covered: tips to green your office life, your home life, your sex life (yes, it’s true!), definitions and explanations of eco terminology, agriculture and the certifications and seals that really mean green, why you shouldn’t love that new car smell, and more. It’s almost 400 pages of awesomely eco-tastic information that’ll propel your eco-living efforts forward.

Bloggers Brunch 2009 = Good Times!
November 11, 2009
The Bloggers Brunch in NYC today hosted by Team Mom was awesome! In addition to learning about some awesome products that surely deserve mention this 2009 holiday shopping season, I got to chat it up with a few other blogalicious mamas, including Mariana of Riding With no Hands, Jen of Next Kid Thing, Onica of Blasian Baby Notes, Courtney of One Bored Mommy and Veronique of Little Elephants.
((Please excuse the poor PQ of the photos included… they’re from my phone!))
I also had a great chat with Joy Berry, parent extraordinaire and bestselling author of family friendly books that help children learn how to deal with many issues, from potty training to schoolwork, to handling divorce and social skills. I got a few copies of her books, including Let’s Talk About Feeling Angry, which I am totally going to be keeping on the bookshelf to read to littleQ, because I have a feeling these toddler tantrums he has are going to persist past his fourth birthday in February. {sigh}
I got a sneak peak at some great products from Nickelodeon, Fujifilm and Cuisinart, and I even got a mini-makeup session with a Laura Mercier makeup artist courtesy of Lord and Taylor.
Good Housekeeping gave each of us moms a little cookbook and offered us a tour of their test labs (which I had to leave early, unfortunately). There was also a representative for the Goddard School, a group of schools dedicated to truly and naturally fostering childhood development. And before you head out (or log on) to shop for toys this Christmas, make sure you check out ToyInfo.org to check out trends and find out about product recalls.
The highlight of my day (besides chatting it up with all the other lovely mommy bloggers!) was when I held a baby alligator and a kookabura (you know, like the song!) and posed for a photo op with each, thanks to the wonderful folks of the Orlando Travel & Visitors Bureau and Gatorland who came up to entice us NYC metro area moms to come down and visit the Sunshine state. (Please excuse the squinty eyes in the photo!)
Thanks Team Mom
Reviews and more in depth product info to come!

Earth’s Best Organic Celebrates their 25th Birthday!
October 13, 2009
I’ve been so incredibly busy with babyQ’s baptism and then my sister in law’s wedding, but I’ve finally found a few minutes to finish this post!
It’s about as pure and unadulterated that baby food can be: Earth’s Best Organic
A couple of weeks, I was invited to a special luncheon celebrating Earth’s Best Organic’s 25th anniversary (or birthday!). From their beginning in 1985 to now, Earth’s Best has been offering parents a 100% healthy and 100% organic alternative baby food. Earth’s Best has I got the lowdown on their awesomely healthy and delicious baby foods, the scoop on their baby care line, and a sneak peak at what’s in store for consumers who shop and love Earth’s Best’s organic and eco-friendly line of products.
Did you know that Earth’s Best now puts out a full range of baby care products in addition to their line of baby food and formula? That’s right – chlorine free diapers and wipes, and I just have to say from experience that Earth’s Best wipes are better than other eco-friendly chlorine free wipes I’ve tried. They smell much, much better (all natural, of course, no urea-laden “fragrance” here), and they clean babyQ’s butt nice and thoroughly. They even offer Tendercare Tots flushable wipes, good for those who tend to just dump the baby’s “mess” straight into the toilet, but are worried about what that’s doing to the environment and their TOILETS.

Yudu Screen Printing – A Project and Tips on Alternatives to Yudu Emulsion Sheets
September 26, 2009
So far I’m loving my Yudu machine! (Click Here and Here to read about my purchase)
The photo above is my latest project, which is a design called Mestiza and printed using Fuschia waterbased ink.
If you have a Yudu machine or have been contemplating purchasing one, then you know that the emulsion sheets are pretty darn pricey. They come two to a pack and average out to about $8-$10 each, depending on where you purchase it. If you’re lucky and you have a 40-50% coupon at Joann’s,
AC Moore or Michael’s, you may be lucky to pick them up at $11 or so for a pack of two, but good luck finding them the emulsion in stock! None of the locations I’ve gone to around here have them in stock at all, and the store clerks and reps I ask have no idea what I’m talking about.

But you don’t have to use Yudu’s emulsion sheets. There are two other options:
- alternative emulsion sheets (aka capillary films), such as Magna/Cure 50 or Magna/Cure 70 sheets or Ulano CDF-5VT capillary films
- emulsion liquid, such as Ulano Emulsion (I think you would use Ulano Fotocoat TZ
, but I’m not 100% sure) or Speedball Diazo Photo Emulsion
(which I use and highly recommend!)

Eating Right Kids – Yummy lunches and snacks for the whole family
September 16, 2009
Safeway and Warner Brothers Consumer Products have collaborated to bring families Looney Tunes themed food, drinks and snacks with Eating Right Kids! What’s more is that these eye-catching offerings are also healthy and delicious!
Exclusively available at the 1700 Safeway stores across the country, the Eating Right Kids food and beverage line is part of the Eating Right line put out by Safeway. All the Eating Right products are part of an effort that is dedicated to providing consumers with “better for you” choices. With obesity being such a major health concern in the US, it’s important for families to have healthy choices readily available to them; and Safeway has already been recognized by the FTC for their efforts at providing such choices to families with children through the Eating Right Kids line.
The Eating Right kids definitely makes it easier for parents to plan meals while taking the worry out of what junk their kids are eating when they’re at school.
I guess the big question people may have on their minds is, “Well does it taste good?” Since I am a part of Team Mom, I was given a chance to have littleQ try and enjoy an entire lunch consisting entirely of Eating Right Kids products. He loved everything and finished his spaghetti rings and meatballs (which was much better than many other canned/shelf stable pastas) down to the last drop of sauce. You would never have known that the pasta was whole wheat! He especially LOVED the berry and chocolate chewy bar. Of course he did, it has chocolate! Leave it to Safeway to come out with something so dreadfully sinful but still good for you.
Bottom line is there is absolutely nothing at all I dislike about the Eating Right Kids line. Whatever makes life easier and streamlines a mama’s day to day routine gets a plus in my book.
Besides packing for school lunches and having the various puddings and other snacks on hand for after school, I think the Eating Right Kids line is perfect for having on hand when the family is planning a family day at the pumpkin patch or a hike, or even just a relaxing day in the urban jungle, because it’s definitely still nice enough to have a picnic at Central Park or Pelham Bay Park.
Unfortunately, a quick search on Safeway.com yielded no results for a Safeway location on or around Long Island, NY. Hopefully Safeway opens up a location in Nassau or Suffolk county.
